BSPMR General Secretary

Message from General Secretary

A Physiatrist or PMR physician is a medical specialist in pain, paralysis, musculoskeletal disorders, rheumatological diseases, diseases of nerve and brain, injury and illness related to disability. Physiatrist approaches to patient with a look at the person as a whole not just the disease or condition. BAPMR is the national medical specialty organization in Bangladesh that represents about 260 Physiatrists nationwide. The association started its journey in 1995 under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Md. Quamrul Islam the father of Physical Medicine in Bangladesh. Since the beginning the association has been sincerely working to raise the awareness regarding the specialty among physicians and general people. Our members are actively participating in scientific meeting at national, regional and international level with exchange of new ideas in the field of Physiatry. BAPMR has been organizing scientific seminars, symposium, workshops and international days related to disability regularly.

The underprivileged population of Bangladesh is depending on our success and abilities. In reality, there are many areas in the country which are still far behind in the proportion of PMR service. Most of this population needs the support from the tertiary level in physiatric management. The Physiatrist gives significant importance on health education, disease prevention and rehabilitation as well as the sustainability of the services.

It is indeed a great pleasure for me to thank all the Physiatrists, learned specialties of other discipline from home and abroad who joined the august gathering of 8th International Scientific Conference of BAPMR on 2014. My heartful congratulations to all the participants specially the young physiatrists and trainees for making our conference a successful one.

I am highly delighted to see the growing interest of physicians and physiatrists to participate in our scientific sessions. It’s certainly a great achievement of BSPMR to increase the importance of Physiatry as a specialty in our country. We like to continue to work hard to represent the interests of our Physiatric colleagues, creating better opportunities and overall success in academic arena.

I urge all the members of BAPMR to be united and stand proud for our Society. This can only be accomplished with dedication and commitment and that will lead this Society to even greater familiarity both nationally and internationally.
